Abstract

This study aims to determine strategies to optimize the role and function of libraries in an effort to support the school literacy movement in Junior High School 1 Secang Magelang. The research design used is a qualitative descriptive study with a factual descriptive approach method. This research was conducted at Junior High School 1 Secang Magelang. The subjects in this study consisted of the principal, teachers, employees, and the school committee. Data collection using interview techniques and documentation. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative and SWOT analysis. The results showed that the role and function of the library in Junior High School 1 Secang Magelang has been running but not optimal, the school has not empowered all its potential in carrying out the role and function of the library. Optimizing the role and function of libraries in Junior High School 1 Secang Magelang is to use strategies that are suitable for internal and external conditions, namely: (1) allocating funds to improve and add library facilities, fiction book collections and activating wall magazines. (2) in-depth and periodic socialization to school members about the role and function of the library. (3) provision of mini library facilities in classrooms and laboratory rooms facilitated by the library. (4) procurement of computers in the library room for internet access. (5) holding competitions and giving awards to school members who are active in the library. (6) enhancing cooperation with external parties such as other agencies / agencies, regional libraries, publishers, parents, alumni.
