Abstract

The background of this study is the student learning outcomes of social science that is still low, especially in class VII B SMP N 1 Poncowarno Kebumen. This research was conducted with the aim to: (1) identify the factors that influence social science learning outcomes, (2) analyze the factors that influence learning outcomes, (3) evaluate the Lecture methods in social science resulting the students low learning outcomes, (4) improvement of social science learning outcomes using the Scramble method in class VII B SMP Negeri 1 Poncowarno. This research was conducted in SMP N 1 Poncowarno, Kebumen with research subjects in class VII B. The number of class VII B students consisted of 28 students consisting of 16 male students and 12 female students. This type of research is Classroom Action Research or CAR using a model from Kemmis and Taggart consisting of the stages of planning, implementation and observation, reflection. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, questionnaires, interviews, tests, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is descriptive and comparative qualitative analysis. The results showed that: (1) dominant factors affecting the learning outcomes of social science students of class VII B SMP N 1 Poncowarno had not reached the master learning yet, namely psychological factors and learning methods, (2) learning by Lecture method could cause attention, interest and motivation to decrease if it is carried out for a long time, (3) The application of the Lecture method needs to be collaborated with other varied methods and supported by interesting media in order to complement the shortcomings that exist in the method, (4) After taking action through learning with the Scramble method, learning outcomes students have increased. Before the action through the Scramble method of students' mastery learning with the KKM IPS 74 was 35.71% with an average of 68.90. After applying the scramble method, the average value of class VII B increased to 86.90 with 89.29% achievements in the first cycle and 83.60 with 85.71 achievements in the second cycle. This research was said to be successful because it met the criteria for success of action of ≥ 75. Keywords: scramble method, learning outcomes, IPS.
