Abstract

This study aims to improve children’s science process skills through experimental methods in children Group B Taman Kanak-kanak Negeri Pembina Purworejo District. This research is a Classroom Action Research. The research model used is a spiral system cycle model developed by Kemmis and Mc Taggart. The study was conducted two cycles and each cycle was held twice. The subjects of this study were 18 children of Group B TK Pembina Purworejo District. Methods of data collection is done through observation and documentation. Data analysis technique is done qualitatively. Increased science ability is said to succeed if 80% of the number of children included in the criteria of good and very good. The results showed that the experimental method can improve children’s science skills. Children’s science skills before the criteria devel- oped very well a number of 5 children. After the action on Cycle I, the children planted the green beans and then observed their growth, the children were interested to follow this experiment, and the children’s science ability increased by 9 children, and in Cycle II at the 1st meeting of magnet playing activities where the children were asked to attach objects tested on the magnet then see the reaction generated and at the meet- ing 2 conducted floating drowning experiments where Children are asked to enter the test objects in a container of water then see the reaction caused. The results of cycle II of children’s value increased by 17 children to the criteria developed very well. In learning using experimental methods, the teacher invites the child to discuss the pro- cedures, tools, and materials for the experiments as well as the things that need to be observed during the experiment and then provide an explanation with examples. Fur- thermore, the child can try to practice on their own, make observations, prove the truth of the prediction done, overcome the problems that arise in the experiment, and draw conclusions.
